“A new scientific truth is not usually presented in a way to convince its opponents. Rather, they die off, and a rising generation is familiarised with the truth from the start.”

“The earth is one household, and we’re not treating it that way.” – David Bohm

Paul Howard (Imagine Films, Ireland) and David Peat (Bohm’s former colleague and biographer) are working on a 90-minute feature documentary on the Life and Ideas of David Bohm titled Infinite Potential.  They hope to premiere the documentary in the latter part of the Bohm centennial celebrations in 2017, which also happens to be the 25th anniversary of Bohm’s death. Imagine Films Ireland have raised 75% of the film’s budget. They are now looking for the final 25% of funding and welcome donations from individuals and organisations.

“When one starts research one never knows how it ends; you only know how you start.” – Professor Raphael Mechoulam

ANANDAMIDE: a molecule which acts as a neurotransmitter, and which has a structure very similar to that of tetrahydrocannabinol, the active constituent of cannabis. It is messenger molecule that plays a role in many bodily activities, including appetite, memory, pain, depression, and fertility – hence its name, which is derived from the word ‘ananda’ which means ‘extreme delight’ or ‘bliss’ in the Sanskrit language. Anandamide’s discovery may lead to the development of an entirely new family of therapeutic drugs.

UNEARTHING in Kings Cross

The folks at Global Generation developed a methodology based around the three territories of ‘I, We and the Planet’ providing space for people to increase awareness of self, to connect to each other and to connect to the natural world. There are many different ways that you can get involved, whether it be volunteering, doing an internship, visiting the garden, eating at the cafe, hiring out the space for your own party or coming to one of our events. For more information, see here: http://www.globalgeneration.org.uk/ Contactgenerate@globalgeneration.org.uk

They also support wider outreach work with schools and adults who want to learn about how to teach the “story of our universe” to young people as a catalyst for positive environmental and social change.http://www.universestory.org.uk/

Global Generation have developed land-based activities and the metaphors of ecological and cosmic processes to support building community between each other and the natural world. They work with local young people, businesses and families in King’s Cross as well as at a campsite in Wiltshire. They developed a methodology based around the three territories of ‘I, We and the Planet’ providing space for people to increase awareness of self, to connect to each other and to connect to the natural world. There are many different ways that you can get involved, whether it be volunteering, doing an internship, visiting the garden, eating at the cafe, hiring out the space for your own party or coming to one of our events. For more information, see here: http://www.globalgeneration.org.uk/ Contact generate@globalgeneration.org.uk

They also created a website to support wider outreach work with schools and other adults who want to learn about how to teach the “story of our universe” to young people as a catalyst for positive environmental and social change.

FREE WILL: The Philosophical Implications of the Urge to Urinate

6 11 2014

Mummy: why are you out of bed again? its bed time.
Philomena: i have too pee.
Mummy: you just peed 5 min ago.
Philomena: well i have to pee again.
Mummy: well hurry up and get back to bed.
Luna: (2 minutes later): i have to pee too.
Mummy:no you don’t, Luna.
Luna: YES I DO!!!! i’ll have a bad dream if i don’t pee. you don’t want me to have a bad dream and wake you up at 3 in the morning do you?!

“For social scientists, the task of the experimental psychologist isn’t to settle once and for all whether we have free will, but rather to see whether people think they do. This is the study of “lay theory”—people’s convictions about the workings of the world.”
